Keeping the Great
Outdoors Great

To keep the great outdoors great, we need to protect it.

We use our clothing and adventures to encourage a greater love for mother nature by getting people outside.

By doing so, we can empower the next generation to care more about the welfare of our planet as they grow up!

Sustainability

Sustainability in fashion is becoming increasingly confusing. The landscape and research is constantly changing and we’re excited for new regulations which will provide a huge amount of clarification on best practise and certification to improve the industry.

We don’t claim to be perfect but we’re working hard to choose fabrics, materials and processes which best protect our planet.

Materials

RPET - All of our Snow Suits, Coats, Swimwear, Sportswear, Beanies & Helmet Covers are made from recycled plastic bottles. The post-consumer bottles are cleaned, chopped into flake, melted into chip and then turned into yarn. The two suppliers that we use for this are REPREVE® & FENC® TopGreen®.

Bamboo - Our Base Layers and Neck Warmers are made from Bamboo which has eco-friendly, thermal-regulating properties as well as being breathable, hypoallergenic and antimicrobial.

Silicon - All of our Roarsome zip toggles are made from silicon. A brilliant alternative to plastic which is flexible, durable, long lasting and made from sand!

Why RPET?

In 2019 we made the decision to swap polyester for RPET. Transforming disused plastic into clothing to save it from the ocean or landfill seemed like (and still seems like) the best option for anyone in the fashion industry who wants to protect the planet. The manufacturing process of RPET is also said to generate 60% less water pollution than virgin PET and far less CO2 emissions.

So far we’ve recycled over 600,000 plastic bottles into epic kids clothing.

Chemicals

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® means that our products have been tested for harmful substances to protect customer's health. This label certifies that every component of the product, from the fabric to the thread and accessories, has been rigorously tested against toxic chemicals.

Pre Loved

Our kids clothing is designed to fit for two years (kids grow quick!) but every item is made to last much longer.

If a child has grown out of their Roarsome gear, then we encourage passing them on to smaller siblings or friends so that they can make their own epic memories too!

Re-selling kids clothing saves up to 79% of carbon emissions associated with sending an item to landfill!

You can swap or borrow old items via our friends at Little Loop - an amazing secondhand marketplace for the best kids clothing.

Fulfilment

In 2021 we transitioned our entire warehousing and fulfilment programme to Green Fulfilment as part of a long term partnership, focused on reducing our environmental impact. Here’s a few ways that we do that:

  • Use paper instead of plastic as void fill when packing orders

  • Use automatic shut-off lights in offices

  • Recycle plastics and corrugated cardboard

  • Recycle paper shredding

  • Real-Time online reporting eliminating printed reports

  • Committed to reviewing energy saving policies and continuing to recycle and dispose of segregated waste efficiently and considerately

  • Use paper based packing tape rather than polystyrene tape to pack boxes

  • Use biodegradable mailing bags.

The Roarsome Forest

One of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is by planting new trees. In particular, Mangrove trees capture up to 4x as much carbon per acre than tropical rainforests.

We’ve partnered with the brilliant Ecologi and committed to planting a new tree for every item sold on our website.

You can add more trees by visiting our forest here.

The Roarsome Store

We opened our first store!

We've taken measures to ensure that environmental practises have been implemented throughout the design.

Firstly we swapped our energy provider to BES Utilities, ensuring that our electricity is generated from independently certified, 100% renewable sources, sourced from Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Wind generation, Landfill Gas and Biomass.

Next we partnered with Farrow & Ball who kindly supplied their top-of-the-range, water- based, trace VOC paint (the lowest rating possible).

For materials, we found an amazing company based in Holland called Re:Felt to create acoustic felt panels for feature walls, made from recycled plastic bottles. Each panel was custom cut or patterned to represent forest and ocean.

We also used reclaimed palette wood supplied by Shred & Butta who we had worked with previously to up-cycle our fleet of disused American School Buses into adventure cabins.

Our vision was for The Roarsome Store to become a friendly hub for all families in the community. Our custom-built counter acts as the heart of that relationship and we wanted a beautiful counter-top that was worthy of this role. Diespeker exceeded our expectations with an incredible terrazzo stone – featuring all of the colours of our store and produced with re- used and recycled marble & granite fragments!

The most popular feature of the store is an immersive nature-themed photo space. Much like a theatre set, the dedicated room hosts a stylised 3D environment which will be updated every season to create a one-of-a-kind space that promotes the great outdoors, where children can let their imaginations run wild.

Even the cushions, curtains and furnishings have been carefully designed in partnership with Colours of Arley. With their help we created our own, recycled textiles that customers will be able to order for themselves exclusively from our store!

We'll also continue planting trees for every customer in the same way we do for website visitors to offset carbon emissions via our partnership with Ecologi.
